Éder Santos (Brazil) creates vibrant, poetic works that merge the personal, the cultural and the technological to reinterpret motifs that are central to Brazil’s African, indigenous and European heritage. Santos started the indipendent video production company Emvideo (www.emvideo.com.br).

Quest’ opera è un invito ad immergersi in alcuni peccati e sentimenti umani. Seguendo la struttura di una enciclopedia, ognuno di questi peccati è un lemma che ha un proprio spazio. “Vizio”. Su una lastra di marmo sono proiettati dei corpi stesi in un fango bianco, confusi tra forma e ‘anti-forma’.
Rappresentano la muta lotta dell’uomo con la sua progenie. L’uomo trasmette ai suoi discendenti e allo stesso tempo eredita da se stesso tutti i suoi difetti e le sue perversioni. Il vizio assume ogni giorno una forma diversa. “Gelosia”. Più la neghi più si manife-sta. Il continuo scambio di posizione dei personaggi in una sala da pranzo, che suggerisce relazioni e impegni reciproci, si conclude con l’emergere di una inconfessata gelosia in chi si considera danneggiato dall’essere collocato in una certa posizione in un certo tempo. “Pigrizia”. Il suono continuo di una goccia d’acqua che cade in un lavandino. L’eco di quel suono. Su una superficie trasparente è proiettata l’immagine della goccia che non cade mai. La goccia si allarga, quasi scoppia per la pressione. Non cadrà mai.

This work is an invitation to immerse ourselves in some mortal sins and soul feelings. Following the normal structure of an encyclopedia each of these feelings, each of these ambiences is as an entry. Each ‘lemma’ will have its own space.
“Vice”. A projection on a marble stone presents bodies lying on white mud, mixed into shape and anti-shape. A dumb struggle takes place between man and his offspring. At the same time that he bequeaths to them, he inherits from himself all his flaws, his perversions. It assumes different shapes at each passing day. “Jealousy”. The more you deny it, the more it manifests itself. The insistent exchanging of position of people in a dining-room, insinuating inter-relations and commitments, ends up by raising an unconfessed jealousy in one who considers himself harmed by the human placement in a given environment at a certain time. “Laziness”. The continuous sound of water dropping that never stops. It has an echo. On a transparent wall the image of a drop that never falls is projected. The projected drop gets big, is stretched, almost breaks from the pressure.
